It's almost decision time for Democratic voters in Pennsylvania, Democratic senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton working hard on the campaign trail today, hoping to sway the undecided voters. Clinton is hoping to continue her string of wins in big states and convince super delegates that she is the party's best shot to defeat Republican Senator John McCain. But supporters of Obama feel a strong enough showing tomorrow will prove he deserves the tickets' top spot.

 

The Supreme Court has cleared the way for three states to set new execution dates for convicts on death row. Three inmates were granted last minute reprieve last year when the court considered the constitutionality of lethal injections, while the court ruled last week that lethal injections are not cruel and unusual punishment. And now justices have turned down the appeals of three convicts from Alabama, Mississippi and Texas, allowing new execution dates to be set.

 

The ground will not stop moving in Illinois, where 18 quakes have been felt in the past three days. It all started with a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that rattled the Middle West Friday. And since that time at least 17 aftershocks have been reported. The latest happened just after mid-night local time this morning. That aftershock had a 4.5 magnitude. No significant damage from any of the quakes has been reported though.

 

A stark warning from the UN chief about the global food crisis, Ban Ki-moon says that the world must increase food production to help relieve the soaring prices that are threatening poor countries. He also outlined plans to form a special tax force to address the problem. He wants to raise hundreds of millions of dollars per year to feed people in dozens of poor countries. (Www.hxen.net)

 

Trade will be on the minds of three North American leaders when they meet today. President Bush is in New Orland, where he will be joined by Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Steven Harper. They are discussing expanding the North America Free Trade Agreement. Both Democratic presidential candidates say they oppose NAFTA while the presumptive Republican nominee John McCain favors it.

 

Eli Manning, the quarterback of the world champion in New York Giants married his college sweetheart over the weekend. The Super Bowl MVP married 24-year-old Abby McGrew during a sunset ceremony in Mexico. The two met when they were students at the University of Mississippi.
