Hello, I am Brooke Baldwin at the cnn Center here in Atlanta, and here is a look at what is happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
There was an evacuation at a Michigan hospital this morning after a helicopter crashed during take-off. It happened right there at the tiptop of the hospital. At a news conference last hour, the city's fire chief said two people on board got out before the chopper caught fire, that, of course, good news. There, witnesses do tell us that the chopper's tail struck a radio tower there on top of Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grant Rapids, Michigan. They said it spun around, sending debris all through the air. There was an explosion, fire and heavy smoke. Fortunately, no patients were onboard.
Kenyan officials say two more ships have been hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia. The ships are the MV Lehmann and the MV Arena. The ships are said to have been in the same area as the Dutch-owned ship that was captured on Sunday. Dutch officials have spoken with the Dutch ship's crew. They are said to be in good condition.
Presidential candidate Barack Obama has just released his health records. And according to a statement from his doctor, Obama is in excellent health. Obama's doctor David Ald Schiniter says Senator Obama's last medical checkup was back in January of last year, and the candidate had no health complaints. The Illinois senator was once a smoker, but he's quit on several occasions, and he is currently using Nicorette gum he says "with success".
And we are nearing that homestretch on the Democratic Primary season. Barak Obama is taking the day off. He is telling the New York Times that he is considering a trip to Iraq. John Mccain has criticized Obama for not visiting the war zone since January of 2006.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton campaigning today in South Dakota. That state and Montana hold the last two primaries just coming Tuesday. Puerto Rico votes Sunday.
Meantime, Republican Senator John McCain campaigns today there in Wisconsin. He is moving on to the mid-west as he's focusing on his home turf, Arizona.
And a warning this morning from the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane season less than a week away now and officials don't want to see people uNPRepared.
"The danger's real. The residents in the coastal regions must be prepared. Even though you may not have been impacted by a hurricane in recent years, perhaps even in generations, you need to prepare this year as if this is the year your city will be hit."
The Atlantic hurricane season starts Sunday, and a new Mason-Dixon poll shows 50% of people living in hurricane prone areas have no disaster plans, no survival kits. 30% say they will not start preparing until a hurricane warning is actually issued. (Www.hxen.net)
