Hi there, I'm Brooke Baldwin at the cnn Center in Atlanta. And here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Voters are casting the very last ballots in the long Democratic race. And soon after those polls close, we could finally learn the party nominee. But for now, Hillary Clinton's campaign is keeping her chances alive. It is denying reports that she'll concede tonight that Barack Obama has enough delegates to win that nomination. And one of her main supporters though, Senator Dianne Feinstein says the time has come for Clinton to end her bid.

Meanwhile, the colleague in Ted Kenney's office says the senator is recovering well from yesterday's surgery to reduce a malignant brain tumor. We are learning that he was awake during that three-and-a-half-hour procedure, so doctors could monitor his movement and his speech. He will recuperate in North Carolina for the next week at Duke University Medical Center before starting chemotherapy and radiation up in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The UN Secretary General is calling for urgent action to address the food crisis threatening hundreds of millions of people worldwide. A food summit in Rome has been overshadowed by the presence of controversial figures like Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Big news out of our economic sector this morning, General Motors has announced it's shutting down four truck and SUV plants to shift production to more fuel-efficient vehicles. Two of those plants are in the US. One is in Mexico, the other in Canada. The move could cost hundreds of employees their jobs. And GM is also considering selling off its Hummer brand. GM predicts the market is permanently going toward smaller vehicles.

And another business news, the Miami Herald is reporting massive layoffs are ahead for Spirit Airlines. The ultra-low-cost airline may lay off up to 60% of its flight attendants and as many as 45% of its pilots. In a letter sent to union leaders just over this past weekend, Spirit says the layoffs are in response to the closing of its New York LaGuardia and San Juan bases.(Www.hXen.com)

And those are just some of the headlines at this hour here. Stay with cnn for more on those stories and a whole lot more throughout this day.
