Hello there, from the cnn Center in Atlanta, I'm Brooke Baldwin and here is a look at some of the stories happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Senator John McCain has officially introduced his running mate. She is Sarah Palin, the first-term governor of Alaska. The Republican ticket made its debut earlier this afternoon there in Dayton Ohio. Palin is a 44-year-old first-term governor, and a strong conservative who opposes abortion rights and holds a lifetime membership in the NRA. McCain chose Palin over several better-known Republicans including former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, a rising star in party circles. McCain's campaign kept the choice well under wraps.

Meanwhile the Democrats have hit the road, Nominees Barack Obama and Joe Biden will be boarding a bus. They will be touring several swing states starting later today in Pennsylvania. And then they will be onto Ohio and Michigan for the Democratic Duo.

As far as news in the weather world, Tropical Storm Gustav has its menacing eye on the Cayman Islands and Cuba. After battering Jamaica with powerful winds and rain there triggered landslides, flooding, four deaths have been reported in Jamaica. At least 67 people died earlier in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

A slow process also underway there in India to rescue the tens of thousands of people stranded by flooding in the northern part of the country. Rescuers are putting flood victims on those boats, just a few people at a time. But with a disaster of this magnitude, they say that could take days. Official death toll is 55, that figure they say is expected to rise. The monsoon season in India brings vital rain to India's farmers but it also brings disaster.

Actor David Duchovny is in rehab for sex addiction. His lawyer and publicist aren't saying very much about it except the fact that he did this voluntarily. Duchovny actually plays a man who was obsessed with sex on Showtime's Californication . You may also know him as Fox Mulder from "the X-files". Duchovny is married to actress Tea Leoni, they have two kids.
