Good day to you, I am Creshon Saunders at the cnn.com Newsroom in Atlanta; here is a look at what’s happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Rescuers are picking their way around the giant boulders scattered around a shantytown near Cairo, Egypt. At least 27 people died when a rockslide sent the giant rocks rolling down into a neighborhood. 35 others are hurt and about 50 homes are destroyed.  Some of the boulders are as big as a small house. Dust covered the town as searchers tried to lift the massive rocks by hand while calling out the names of the missing loved one. Authorities there say that as many as 500 people may be buried.(Www.hxen.net)

The widower of the assassinated former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto will become the country’s next president. Asif Ali Zardari was elected by a wide margin by Parliament today. Zardari 's toughest challenge could come in the turbulent northwestern part of Pakistan where a bomb blast killed 16 today.

For those of you living along the east coast, you may be looking at a soggy weekend. Courtesy of Hanna, the tropical storm made landfall on the Carolina coast this morning, bringing with it high winds, pounding surf, and a bunch of rain. On its current track, the storm is expected to skirt up the Eastern Seaboard through the mid-Atlantic and into New England and Canada by tomorrow. So far though there have been no death reported from Hanna, but forecasters are warning of possible tornados.

Meanwhile with the near miss from Hanna, people from Florida are already getting ready for Hurricane Ike. Right now the storm’s track is still uncertain but many Floridians aren’t taking any chances. Check out this line of people waiting at a gas station yesterday to fill up their tanks. The latest advisory for Ike shows the hurricane has lost a little strength but forecasters say they expect the hurricane will re-intensify and the Florida Keys’ all nonresidents are under a mandatory evacuation order.

The Olympics ended 2 weeks ago but thousands of athletes are flocking to Beijing. The Paralympic Games open today and disabled athletes from 148 countries are taking part. Competition begins tomorrow and will use many of the same venues as athletes did during the recent Olympiad. The 10-day event will feature more than 4000 athletes competing in 472 medal events.
