Good morning, everyone. I am Catherine Callaway at the cnn center in Atlanta, with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

"Today on Fort Hood we will observe a day of mourning and remembering in our thoughts and prayers the victims of this incident." 12 soldiers and one civilian dead after a lone gunman attacked Fort Hood yesterday. 30 people were injured. Authorities are investigating whether any of them were shot accidentally by someone trying to take out the gunman. The alleged shooter, a US army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan is alive and in stable condition.

The federal government says that the unemployment rate rose to 10.2% in October, up 0.4% from September, the first time that we have seen double-digit unemployment in more than 26 years. The economy lost 190,000 jobs last month.

President Obama may sign legislation today that will extend jobless benefits in all states by 14 additional weeks. People in states with unemployment that's higher than 8.5% will receive an extra six weeks of benefits, 20 weeks total. The bill may also boost the housing market, extending the 8,000-dollar first-time home buyer tax credit to June 30th.

Coroners in Cleveland have now identified three of 11 victims found in the  sex offender's home, but police need more families to come forward with DNA samples. Coroners are reassuring them the samples won’t be turned over to police. Suspect Anthony Sowell is being held without bond. He's charged with murder.

The two Northwest Airlines pilots who overshot Minneapolis by 150 miles might be trying to get back to the cockpit. This is video of one of those pilots. The NTSB says they have appealed the FAA’s decision last week to revoke their license. And the FAA says they put the passengers in danger. The pilots said they were distracted doing crew scheduling on their laptops.
