Do not tell that to the folks we are already getting hammered by the first major storm of the season. States out west got slammed by 23 feet of snow, winds whipping around at up to 90 miles per hour, even some desert states felt the freeze, check out this video for Arizona.

Storm is making its way east and as of yesterday parts of Iowa and Minnesota were both under a blizzard warning. Some homes are protected against weather called by weatherizing which keeps heating and costs down.

And starting it is an example of green collar job, work that has focused on the environment. Christen Romans shows us how some folks are learning to be part of the green collar world.

The skills talked here are green. This is recycled newspapers. And so are the students.

We do work with 17 to 24-year olds who lack work history or often low income crew involve. Our crew members do not want to hang out on the street, they want to be productive. They want a work. That’s where Louisiana green collar come in. Based in New Orleans, and founded through a grant from the US labor department, the program teaches young adults how to weatherize a rehabilitate home.

We are giving a general base of construction knowledge, carpentry skills; we also emphasize academic improvement, work readiness, and really encourage our crew members to make positive life decisions. There is a lot work to be done.
