Today is Thursday, November 22, a day Americans eat turkey or something like it.
The name Tofurkey (a portmanteau of tofu and turkey, mean faux turkey - a loaf or casserole of vegetarian protein, usually made from tofu, soybean protein, or seitan, wheat protein, with a stuffing made from grains and/or bread flavored with a broth and seasoned with herbs and spices, oven-roasted or baked) has become very iconic and synonymous with Thanksgiving.
A day to get ready, set, shot.
Almost as soon as last Christmas was over, there were signs in the buildings saying how many more days to a Black Friday of 2012, and a day where turkey is hard to find for the homeless.
So we try to get some chickens and things like that so that they have something.
I’m Tommy Andres and this is cnn Radio News Day.
We start this special Thanksgiving edition of our show with the big stories happening all over the world. Here is cnn’s Agra Tragus with the headlines.
cnn.com, headlines.
The ceasefire between Israel and Gaza still appears to be holding. The deal brokered by Egypt on Wednesday quieted eight days of shelling and counter- strikes which killed 160 Palestinians and at least six Israelis. This resident on Ashkelon, Israel, about 15 kilometers from the Gaza border, tells cnn it’s a relief.
And you will feel like you’re back to life. Because there is no allowance, no fire, nothing. You live your life.

Amid a growing chorus of heat against her from Republicans including Senator John McCain, the US ambassador to the United Nations has responded. Susan Rice says her initial comments on the September 11th attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya was based solely on information from the intelligence community.
I made clear that the information was preliminary and that our investigations would give us the definitive answers.

On this Thanksgiving holiday across the US, a message from President Obama.
On behalf of the Obama family, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Boe and me, I want to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.
It was a happy start for more than 3 million people watching the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. Hundreds of floats on display including for this parade watcher, a returning favor.
I like to Choli Ground when they have the football.
For many more Americans, part of their holiday fun involves getting out into the crowds to shop. Retailers, including Wal-Mart and Target, plan to open their doors before midnight tonight to get the official holiday shopping season going. Retail analyst Wary Wax says this follows a trend for stores opening earlier and earlier to entice shoppers.
At some point, the retailers won’t be able to extend the hours any more. But last year a lot of them jumped on this midnight openings, and we won’t sure how it will turn out, and it really work to be a stoke of genies.
But the National Retail Federation suggests that fewer Americans, perhaps 70 million fewer, will get out to shop this weekend than last year’s Thanksgiving weekend. For more on this and other stories, be sure to check out cnn.com. I’m Agra Tragus.
