Thank you so much for watching ourpenultimate program at the school year. I'm Carl Azuz.

Our first story today on cnn Student News actually started more than 2 yearsago. That's when the violence began in the Middle East nation of Syria. InMarch of 21, some people started protesting against Syria's government. Thegovernment reacting with force eventually rebels armed themselves startedfighting back. The United Nation estimates that nearly 70,000 Syrians, most ofthem were civilians have been killed in the country civil war. Both sides wereclaimed victories in it, the latest victory is by the government. On WednesdaySyrian forces took control on the city of Qusayr. That's after nearly 7 weeksof fighting. Qusayr is in a strategic location which is why it's important boththe government and the rebels. Syrian Official celebrating the victory, rebelgroups are promising continue the fight despite losing this battle. Thousandsof civilians living in Qusayr don't know what their future holds.

Next we're moving over to Europe where a couple of countries Germany and CzechRepublic are struggling to severe weather.

Large areas of Central and Eastern Europe being hit by these floods rightnow.And in Czech Republic several people have died. A lot of water that youseeing here in Meissen actually is coming from the Czech Republic.

cnn reporter Frederik Pleitgen was in the German city of Meissen where riverlevels are more than 4 times higher than average. Here is what looks like otherparts of Germany, what's happening is that heavy rain is cause the waters andseveral major rivers like the Danube and the Elba, to rise. These images fromthe Czech Republic. A huge part of that country in under state of emergency, tensof thousands people been evacuated because of these floods. Forecasters arepredicting more heavy rain for this weekend.
