Do you have the signatures?

We have put together field operation.Everybody said it is hard to gather 3,750 signatures over the course of coupledays on the streets of city. I feel confident and we are out there today. But Ifeel pretty we will be ok.

OK, confident.

But I feel like a CEO, who is reportingcording we earnings before they are out, I don’t want to over-promise, I don’twant to under-promise, we feel comfortable, and we will see what out of this.

You have the votes, because you have tomove ahead of that. Will you have the votes...?

Well, that is the ultimate test, of course.I will feel the public is going to give me a fair hearing; it’s the one pullthat is come out. This is certainly the very encouraging I’m waiting. But Ididn’t pull before I got into this race. I have got an instinct that if I makemy case to the public, the instant what they did to the Attorney General, fightingis the independent voice on financial matters and the whole graph of otherstuff, but certainly financial matters, which go to the heart and soul what hadbeen in the control of what the city is all about, I think the public will goto support … 

You know, there is also this feeling thoughin New York and elsewhere, that you had your chance, Eliot, as governor of NewYork, you had your chance and you blew it.

Right.

Why do you deserve it as to trust anotherchance?

First, I seek in the public trust and wedidn’t; we accomplished the enormous amount, not only when I was AttorneyGeneral, but we fully founded the New York City’s public education system. Wedid not raise taxes; we reformed health care; we put in place and created theNew York state stem cell research fund. I could go on reform on the employment ….

But I could go on to. You know what theytalk about? It was, yes, the Attorney General prosecuted and tried. And youprosecuted prosecution rings. And, as Governor, you know, you rushed your jobs,you rushed your jobs because of hypocrisy.

No, I resigned because I believed it wasthe appropriate way to say I appreciate what accountability is all about, whichit had been something like I had spoken about and I believe in. Five yearslater, I am ready to go to the public and say, here is the entirety of therecord, here is the totality of the record. I think I can serve once more. AndI am ready to serve. If you want, bring me back. I have always trusted thepublic. Whether it was a low-level prosecutor trial in misdemeanor case infront of a jury, or significant felony cases, or as a politician ask them forvote, I would trust and defer to the public’s verdict on that. And I askedgonna to be able to make my case, that’s wonder ….
