The President and Vice President took the time to meet with victims and families involved in the Pulse massacre and in remarks to reporters, reiterated his intent to see laws change making it harder for people to buy what he refers to as assault weapons, or to allow people once investigated for terrorist concerns to easily acquire firearms:

This debate needs to change, it's outgrown the old political stalemates.
The President added that despite the intentions or motivations of the shooters either in Orlando or Aurora or Newtown, their access to firearms was common.
