The Democratic Presidential candidate wants to create a government consumer response team to keep an eye on the costs of prescription medications, amid a consumer outcry over the soaring cost of the EpiPen, a life-saving allergy drug.
Under Clinton’s plan, if the team finds companies are gouging people, they could face financial penalties. The government could also speed up the approval of competing drugs and make alternative drugs more available.
Over the past decade, the cost of the EpiPen has jumped from $100 a pack to around $600.
