Ken: What kind of movie can I help you find today? A comedy, a sci-fi, or a suspense movie?
Ann: How about an art film?
Ken: I highly recommend The Widow of Saint-Pierre with Juliette Binoche.
Ann: Oh, I love her, but that movie's rented out.
Ken: What about the Cirque du Soleil film?
Ann: I've seen it. Any new romance comedies out?
Ken: Everyone's ranting and raving about Bridget Jones's Dairy.
Ann: Oh, yeah! With that actress from Jerry Maguire...
Ken: Renee Zellweger. It also stars Hugh Grant. The movie received a four-star rating on the Net.
Ann: But it's probably rented out.
Ken: I can check for you...oh, sorry, it is. What about a Chinese flick? There's one out called Suzhou River with Zhou Xun.
Ann: Sounds cool! I bet that's a two-nighter.
Ken: Yep. But if you bring it back tomorrow you get a one-yuan discount.
Ann: I'll do that then. How much is the rental fee away?
Ken: Two yuan. And let me suggest a movie cash card. You get a twenty-yuan value for only sixteen yuan.
Ann: Cool! I'll take one. But what about late fees? I'm terrible when it comes to returning videos.
Ken: They're three per day for some, and two for others.

讲解：

1. Ann的卡已经办好了，那么她想租一部什么电影呢？喜剧，科幻片还是悬疑片呢。大家都知道，电影也分很多种类，对话中提到的喜剧电影，就叫comedy；科幻片叫做sci-fi，就是science fiction的缩写；悬疑片叫做suspense。下面Ann还提到了art film就是艺术电影，还有浪漫喜剧romance comedy。

2. 其它常见的电影类型还有惊悚片thriller和恐怖片horror movie等等。你可以用简单的kind “种类”这个词来表达电影的种类，不是一定要用genre这个单词，挺难读的。好，我们来举个例子，---What kind of movies do you like? ---Comedies are my favorite, but Sci-Fi's are pretty cool, too. ---你喜欢哪一种电影？---我最喜欢喜剧片，不过科幻片也很酷。

3. 你也可以用be into something这个句型来表达你对某种电影的偏好，比如说，---Do you like horror movies? ---Not really. I'm more into art films. ---你喜欢恐怖电影吗？---不算喜欢，我比较喜欢艺术电影。

4. Ken给Ann推荐的是茱莉叶·比诺什主演的《雪地  里的情人》，就是The Widow of Saint-Pierre with Juliette Binoche，这里的with就表示“由谁主演”。recommend表示“推荐”，这里Ken又加了一个highly这个副词，表示“强力推荐”，强调他喜欢这部电影的程度。

5. highly在这里表示“高度地，非常”，比如说，Stuart Little is a highly amusing film. 《精灵鼠小弟》是一部非常有趣的电影。The goods on display are all very highly priced. 这次展出的物品都是非常昂贵的。

6. Ann也很喜欢茱莉叶·比诺什主演的电影，但是这部电影已经租出去了，be rented out，租完了的。这里out表示“全部，彻底”，比如我们比较熟悉的，something is sold out，就表示“某物已经卖完了，没有了”。

7. Ken又给Ann推荐了太阳马戏团那部片子，就是Cirque du Soleil film，Cirque du Soleil，“太阳马戏团”，是由魁北克一群临场演出经验丰富的街头艺人，在1984年组成的团体，在2000年的时候首度推出影坛代表作《飞跃之旅》，也就是Alegria，Ken所指的可能就是这部电影。

8. 但是Ann好像对这部电影不是很感兴趣，她又继续问，Any new romance comedies out? 有新出的浪漫喜剧片吗？Ken又给她推荐了《BJ单身日记》，也就是Bridget Jones's Dairy，大家可能对这部电影比较熟悉，是由Hugh Grant 和Renee Zellweger主演的，Renee Zellweger因为和Tom Cruise合演《征服情海》也就是Jerry Maguire而走红。

9. 看来Ann还是很喜欢她的，而这部《BJ单身日记》也确实受到了好评，rant and rave，表示“大声地，激动地说话或者奔走相告，喧闹”，对话中说Everyone's ranting and raving about Bridget Jones's Dairy. 意思是《BJ单身日记》这部电影口碑还不错，这部电影在网上也获得了四颗星的评价，Hugh Grant在里面也有不错的表现。

10. star 这个词除了表示天上的“星星”和演艺圈里的“明星，巨星”之外呢，还可以用做动词表示“主演”，比如说，---Who stars in Ocean's Eleven? ---George Clooney and Brad Pitt. ---《十一罗汉》是谁主演的？---乔治·克鲁尼和布莱德·彼特。

11. 说到了电影，演员阵容，也就是cast，也是票房号召力之一，尤其是“续集”，sequel 如果由原班人马演出，也就是original cast，通常都能够吸引更多的观众。比如你刚才说到的Ocean's Eleven《十一罗汉》的续集Ocean's Twelve《十二罗汉》就很卖坐。好，我们现在用sequel “续集”和cast“演员阵容”这两个词来做个对话，---Who's going to be in the Matrix sequel? ---The original cast plus a couple of new people. ---《骇客帝国》的续集里会有谁呢？---原班人马再加上几个新人。

12. Ken查了一下，这部《BJ单身日记》也租出去了，他又给Ann推荐了一部中国电影，周迅主演的《苏州河》。flick是一个俚语，意思是“电影”，是一个旧式的用法了。还有the flicks，表示“电影院”，比如说，What's on at the flicks? 电影院现在放映什么电影啊？Ann猜《苏州河》这部电影肯定是租三天两夜的。但是Ann要是能明天拿来还，可以优惠一元钱。

13. Ann觉得这样不错，又问租片费是多少，the rental fee，就是指“租借的费用”。Ken告诉她是两元钱，还建议她买一张加值卡，租二十块钱的片子只要十六块钱。

14. Ann觉得还挺划算的，就买了一张。她又问如果还晚了，片子过期的钱怎么算呢？late fees就是“过期应该支付的费用”。在Movietime，有的片子晚一天事三块钱，其他的是两块钱，还真是挺贵的。

Ken: Your cash card is nine hundred yuan, and I'll take eight yuan off for this movie you're bringing back tomorrow.
Ann: Great. Here's a thousand.
Ken: OK. One hundred is your change. Here's your cash card and your membership card. Remember to bring them each time you come!

讲解：

1.对话中，Ann在跟Ken结账，她说So how much do I owe you? 我该给你多少钱？owe这个动词表示“欠钱或者人情”，How much do I owe? /How much do I owe you?/What do I owe you?这三个句子无论是在结账或者你真的欠别人钱的时候都可以用。比如说，---How much do I owe? ---That'll be three hundred dollars. ---我要给你多少钱？---总共是三百美元。

2. 问到价钱的时候，口语中还有一个用上“灾害”，也就是damage这个词的可爱用法，意思类似于中文里的“破财”。比如说，---That meal was great. What's the damage? ---A hundred dollars. ---这顿饭真好吃，我要破财多少？---正好一百元。Ann的加值卡是九百元，明天还片，Ken就从里面扣八元钱。

3. Ann交了一千块钱，Ken找了她一百元，并且提醒她每次来都要带会员卡和加值卡。
