有一些表示位置或者高度的词语非常形象，不是简单的说is in（在哪里），is...meters high：

The temple lay beside the river.这座庙宇坐落在小河畔。

The big tree stands on the hill.那棵大树矗立山上。

The building stands 200ms high.这座楼有200米高。

2.He moved his headquarters to West Point in seventeen seventy-nine in the middle of the war.

年份的读法

关于四位数年份的读法有下列几种情形：
    
    1）一般情况下，将表示年份的四个数字按前后分为两组，每一组的数字都按基数词来读。例如：
   
    1865年读作 eighteen sixty-five
   
    1998年读作 nineteen ninety-eight
    
    2）如果前两个数字为非“零”数字，后两位数分别为“零”，则先读出前两位数，然后将后面的两个“零”读为 hundred。例如：
   
    1900年读作 nineteen hundred
   
    1800年读作 eighteen hundred
   
    3）第三个数字为“零”（其他数字不是“零”）的年份的读法应当将该“零”读为O〔u〕。例如：
   
    1809年读作 eighteen O nine
   
    4）关于千年的一些读法。
   
    2000年读作 two thousand
   
    2008年读作 two thousand and eight（或twenty O eight）
   
    1008年读作 one thousand and eight（或ten O eight）

3.The education centered on civil engineering.

center on以…为中心,集中围绕…

例句：His whole attention was centered on this matter.
      他的全部注意力都集中在此事上。

4.Today, math and science are still a large part of the education.

系动词are后面虽然是单数形式a large part of，但是系动词本身却用了are复数形式，以为谓语本身要和主语保持人称和数的一直，主语是math and science，表达的是复数的意思。

5.Now because we have cadets from Panama and cadets from African countries, that doesn't necessarily increase your knowledge on how to interact in Iraq or Afghanistan.

not necessarily未必，不一定

例句：Freedom does not necessarily imply responsibility.
      自由不一定包含着责任。

6.Up to sixty cadets can be international students.

up to多达，相当于as many as

例句：I can take up to four people in my car.
      我的车里可以载四个人。

up to还有其他意思：

直到

I have not made a dicision up to now.
我到现在还没做出决定。

It's up to you to decide where to go.
