1. Today we look at a very common verb form in English – phrasal verbs.
look at 审视; 评判; 接受
例句:We must take a hard look at our finances.
我们应该密切注意财务问题.
2. When you want to speak more formally, you can use a single word of Latin or French origin instead of most phrasal verbs.
instead of (用…) 代替…, (是…)而不是…
例句:I decided to treat myself to a taxi, eg instead of walking.
我决定坐他一次计程车。
3. At one time, British English speakers used phrasal verbs much less often than American English speakers.
at one time 一度, 从前
例句:The city at one time must have been prosperous.

4. You can say you care for someone with the phrasal verb look after as in:
care for 照料; 喜欢; 愿意
例句:I wonder whether they will care for us all to go there.

5. Here, the phrasal verb put up with means tolerate.
put up with 将就; 忍受,容忍; 容受
例句:They had put up with behaviour from their son which they would not have tolerated from anyone else.
