Unit 20 Flawless English  完美无瑕的英语

An African chieftain flew to the United States to visit the president. When he arrived at the airport, a host of newsmen and television cameramen met him. One of the reporters asked the chief if he had a comfortable flight.
有名非洲酋长搭飞机到美国拜访总统。他一抵达机场，就被一群新闻记者和电视摄影记者团团包围。有名记者问酋长旅途是否舒适愉快。

The chief made a series of weird noises..."Screech, scratch, honk, buzz, whistle, Z-Z-Z-Z" and then added in perfect English, "Yes, I had a very nice flight."
酋长先发出一连串“叽、刮、轰、叭、嘻吼、滋-滋-滋-滋”的奇怪声音，然后用娴熟的英语说道：“是的，旅途相当舒适愉快。”

Another reporter asked, "Chief, do you plan to visit the Washington Monument while you're in the areas."
另一位记者问道：“酋长，到这里来有打算参观华盛顿纪念碑吗？”

The chief made the same noises..."Screech, scratch, honk, buzz, whistle, Z-Z-Z-Z" and then said, "Yes, and I also plan to visit the White House and the Capital Building."
酋长又发出同样“叽、刮、轰、叭、嘻吼、滋-滋-滋-滋”的怪声，然后说：“是的，我也打算参观白宫和国会大厦。”

"Where did you learn to speak such flawless English?" asked the next reporter.
“你一口完美无暇的英语是在哪里学的啊？”下一个记者问道。

The chief replied, "Screech, scratch, honk, buzz, whistle, Z-Z-Z-Z... from the short-wave radio."
酋长回答：“叽、刮、轰、叭、嘻吼、滋-滋-滋-滋...是从短波无线电台学来的。”

Unit 21 Artist Model  画家的模特儿

While painting a model at one of the art studios, the artist was suddenly very attracted to her. He wanted to kiss her.
画家在某间画室替一名模特儿作画时，突然被模特儿深深吸引住，很想一亲芳泽。

When he could stand it no longer, he threw down his palette, took her in his arms and kissed her.
最后他受不了了，便扔下调色板，把她抱在怀里亲吻了她。

She pushed him away and said, "How dare you?
她把他推开，说道：“你竟敢亲我？”

Who do you think you are? Do you kiss all the models that pose for you?"
“你以为你是谁？所有摆姿势让你作画的模特儿你都会亲吗？”

"I've never tried to kiss a model before," he swore.
“我以前没想过要亲模特儿（模型）。”他发誓说。

"Really," she remarked, softening. "How many models have there been?"
“真的吗？”她的口气已经软化：“那你画过几个模特儿？”

"Four," he replied. "An orange, two apples and a vase."
“四个，”他回答：“一个橘子、两个苹果和一个花瓶。”
