BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- It's time for "Prison Break" to take a break and it's inescapable: Fox is bringing the slipping series to an end after four seasons.

The U.S. TV network said Tuesday that the drama starring Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will begin airing its final episodes this spring. The series took a break after its December season debut and will conclude with about a half-dozen episodes starting April 17.

It's the right move for "Prison Break" and its fans, said Kevin Reilly, Fox entertainment president.

"We didn't give it the hook," Reilly told a meeting of the Television Critics Association. "The show just played out. I think you get to the point where creatively everyone feels enough stories were told."

Ending the show now allows it to "finish strong," he said.

When it debuted in 2005, it appeared to be a one season and done type of show. The show is called "Prison Break," what more is there to do after Michael and Lincoln broke out of prison.

The show became a cult series and, while ratings were never terribly impressive, the fans it did have were as rabid as any on television.

"Prison Break" also made Miller and Purcell low-level stars. Wentworth especially has become a beloved heartthrob.

It is said to be the most-watched and most-discussed U.S. television show in China in these years. Miller, who enjoys a solid fan base in China thanks to the popularity of the show, also toured China meeting frenzy fans in 2008.
