PRAGUE, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The film Broken Promise (2009) by Czech director Jiri Chlumsky won the main award for the best feature film at the Jewish Film Festival in Los Angeles, the SPI International company told reports on Thursday.

Broken Promise had a world premiere in Los Angeles on April 25.It was produced by Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the United States.

The film is made after an autobiographic book by Martin Petrasek, 83 years old, who recollects his childhood and youth in the Slovak wartime state.

Petrasek, still named Friedmann in the 1930s, only luckily escaped deportation to a concentration camp as a Jewish boy and then fought the Nazis along with Soviet partisans.

The writer Petrasek, who has been living in the United States since 1959, was very surprised to see the film expressed the feelings he tried to express in his book.

Director Chlumsky said the issue of the Slovak wartime state and its anti-Semitism in Slovakia is similar to the issue of the transfer of ethnic Germans from Czech border regions after World War Two in the Czech Republic
