BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- The favourite Susan Boyle placed second in the final of the "Britain's Got Talent" TV show on Saturday night, beaten by Street dancers "Diversity."

For the finals, she returned to the song that made her famous, "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables." She was so overwhelming that the result was seen as a major surprise.

"She lost because people didn't bother voting for her because they thought she was going to win it," lamented 21-year-old Gordon Mackenzie. "I didn't vote for her because I thought everyone else would."

In a shocking upset, "Diversity," including three sets of brothers and comes from southeast England, won the final 100,000 pounds (160,000 dollars) and the right to take the stage at the Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen.

In the end Boyle proved stoic in defeat, graciously congratulating her opponents. But it's unlikely that finishing second on "Britain's Got Talent" will be the end of Susan Boyle's showbiz dream.

Asked about her career plans after the show, Boyle told broadcaster ITV that she hoped to get an album out, and will "just play it by ear."

Susan Boyle was an Internet phenomenon and global celebrity after appearing on the show. Her stunning audition for the TV show last month has been viewed something like 90 million times on YouTube. She is a symbol of the folly of underestimating people because of the way they look.
