娱乐英语新闻:Michael Douglas "devastated" by son's arrest for drug selling

BEIJING, August 13 (Xinhuanet) -- The famous Hollywood actor Michael Douglas said on Wednesday that he and his family were "devastated" by the arrest of his son Cameron Douglas on charges of selling the illegal drug methamphetamine.

    "The family is devastated and very disappointed in Cameron's recent behavior," Michael Douglas and his former wife, Diandra Douglas, said in a statement to People magazine, "Any family who has dealt with substance abuse knows how devastating it can be."

    It was the first time they publicly addressed their son's July 28 arrest.

    Cameron was arrested at a Manhattan hotel, and prosecutors allege he shipped large quantities of the drug from California to New York via mail service FedEx. He could get life in prison if convicted of charges that he sold thousands of dollars worth of methamphetamine.

    Michael Douglas, the son of Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas, won an Oscar for his role in the 1987 movie "Wall Street," and has since starred in "Traffic" and "You, Me and Dupree." He is married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
