BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- A Los Angeles judge sentenced pop singer Chris Brown to probation of five years and labor service for about six months for the assaulting of his girlfriend Rihanna and ordered him to stay away from his former her for the next five years, according to news reports on Wednesday.

    Police investigating the February attack learned of two earlier incidents related to domestic violence that went unreported, a probation report prepared for Tuesday's sentencing said.

    It said the first incident occurred in Europe about three months before the present offense; Rihanna slapped Brown during an argument, and he shoved her into a wall.

    In the other incident in January, Brown broke the front and passenger side windows on a Range Rover they were driving while visiting Rihanna's home country Barbados.

    Neither attack was reported previously, the probation report stated.

    Brown will serve his sentence in Virginia, where he maintains a legal residence. His community labor will be overseen by the police chief in Richmond.

    Rihanna did not attend Tuesday's sentencing. She declined to speak to the probation investigator, so the probation report's details were gathered from police detectives who interviewed her soon after the attack.

    Brown's probation will be overseen by the state of California, the judge said.
