2009-11-28来源:和谐英语
GENEVA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Swiss Justice Department has decided not to appeal film director Roman Polanski's release on bail, it said in a statement on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Federal Criminal Court had ruled that Polanski could be released on bail while he fights extradition to the United States.

Polanski's bail was set at 4.5 million Swiss Francs (4.49 million U.S. dollars). Once bail is posted and the Zurich cantonal police have Polanski's identification and travel documents in their possession, Polanski will be released on bail.

Polanski will be kept under house arrest at his chalet in Gstaad and wear an electronic bracelet. If he violates the terms of his release, Polanski's bail will be forfeited.

The filmmaker has been in jail since his arrest on September 26en route to accept an award at a Zurich film festival. The United State wants Polanski to face sentencing for a 1977 case in which he pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Polanski is best known for having directed "Rosemary's Baby," "Chinatown," and "The Pianist."
