娱乐英语新闻:Nominees of 35th French Cesar Awards unveiled
PARIS, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The French Academy of Film Arts and Sciences on Friday announced the official nominees for the upcoming 35th annual Cesar Awards, France's top film awards.
Two politically charged dramas "A Prophet" and "Welcome" were among top candidates for the best film, according to the academy jury.
"A Prophet," directed by Jacques Audiard, depicts the story of a young Arab man sent to a French prison who eventually gains power among the reigning Corsican mafia.
Other competitors for the best film include "The Original" by Xavier Giannoli with 11 nominations and "Welcome" by Philippe Lioret with 10 nominations.
For the title of best foreign film of the year, there are seven contenders, including Michael Haneke's "The White Ribbon," Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar," "Milk," "Gran Torino" and "Slumdog Millionaire."
The ceremony, during which 20 trophies will be awarded, will be held at the Theater du Chatelet in Paris on Feb. 27.
Founded in 1975, the Caesar Awards are judged by a group of professionals consisting of actors, directors, scriptwriters, producers, agents, technicians and distributors.
