Beijing, Jan. 28 -- James Cameron is still the most bankable filmmaker in the world, but no longer for "Titanic".
Reuters cites distributor 20th Century Fox as saying Cameron's latest sci-fi extravaganza "Avatar" has surpassed "Titanic" to become the highest-grossing movie worldwide.
Globally, "Avatar" has raked in $1.859 billion after Monday's sales, taking little over six weeks to beat the $1.843 billion record set by "Titanic" over a decade ago.
The data are not adjusted for inflation.
"Avatar" won best drama and best director at the Golden Globes earlier this month, and is likely to garner Oscar nominations next month.
