LOS ANGELES, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Former producer of CBS reality series "Survivor" Bruce Beresford-Redman was not allowed to escort his wife's body home nearly three weeks after her murder in Cancun, Mexico, local media outlets reported Thursday.

A coffin carrying Beresford-Redman's body was unloaded from a plane at Los Angeles International Airport Wednesday night and then driven to the Gates, Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury funeral home in Culver City. Monica's sisters Jeanne and Carla Burgos flew with the body.

"It's very important to have my sister back where she belongs and have the family say goodbye and have a place to go so they can send their love," Jeanne said.

Mexican Attorney General Francisco Alor said the family wants Monica's body to undergo additional tests, local television channel KTLA reported.

Beresford-Redman, 38, told police and relatives on April 6 that Monica never made it back to the hotel after a solo shopping excursion the day before. But police said there is no record of her having left the hotel grounds.

Monica's naked body was found two days later in a sewer at the lavish Hotel Moon Palace where the couple had been staying for holiday with their two children. It bore signs of possible strangulation. Beresford-Redman had scratch marks on his neck. The day would have been Monica's 42nd birthday.

A guest at the hotel reported hearing a commotion coming from the room occupied by the couple on April 5 when Monica died. The guest heard "a woman screaming for help" around 6 a.m. local time. A man said that everything was fine when a hotel employee called the room to check on the complaint.

Beresford-Redman was ordered by Mexican authorities to remain in the country as the sole suspect until the murder investigation winds up. Authorities say they think they'll be able to make arrest soon, although the former producer has not been charged with a crime.

Beresford-Redman is a veteran TV producer who has been nominated for three Emmy Awards.

Family members say they need donations to help pay for legal fees, keep pressure on Mexican authorities and take care for her children. A web site has been set up to accept donations.

No details on a funeral service have been announced.
