娱乐英语新闻:U.S. pop star Chris Brown updates court on probation

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. R&B singer Chris Brown has completed almost 300 hours of community service since being sentenced for beating his ex-girlfriend and singer Rihanna last year, media reported on Friday.

The 21-year-old singer appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday morning to offer a judge an update on his community service and domestic violence counseling.

An attorney for Brown told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg Brwon had completed more than 290 hours of hard labor and attended all but one of his mandatory 52 counseling sessions for domestic violence.

He is expected to complete his counseling in October.

Judge Schnegg said it appeared Brown was making progress and she set a future status hearing for Aug. 26.

The pop star was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community labor for attacking Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy awards in 2009.

The assault left Rihanna bloody and bruised and caused both a firestorm of media coverage.

The two split afterwards, and Rihanna has moved on and is currently dating Los Angeles Dodgers baseball star Matt Kemp.
