娱乐英语新闻:"Shrek" tops box office again

BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhuanet) -- "Shrek Forever After" beat "Sex and the City 2" and Disney's "Prince of Persia" to win another weekend at the box office in North America, according to BBC reports.

"Shrek" retains its No. 1 for the second week by taking in 55.7 million U.S. dollars.

"Prince of Persia," a movie adapted from a video game series, took the second spot with 37.8 million dollars, beating "Sex and the City 2", which brought in 37.1 million dollars.

Family films had been most popular because it had been a holiday weekend in the U.S., according to Paul Dergarabedian, a worker from box office tracker Hollywood.com.

"The audience is not absolutely thrilled with the movies in the marketplace and they're voting with their absence now," Dergarabedian added.

"Iron Man 2," down two spots to number four, took in 20.3 million dollars to bring its four-week earnings to a combined 278.8 million dollars.
