娱乐英语新闻:Russian famous movie festival over in Sochi

MOSCOW, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The 21st Kinotavr movie festival has finished in the southern Russian city of Sochi with grand prize going to film Truce by Svetlana Proskurina as a surprise.

"Thanks to Kinotavr, thanks to the jury, and of course, thanks to my precious team," said the director at the awarding ceremony held Sunday.

The movie, which tells a story about those searching for their place in life, surprised the majority of critics by winning the major prize.

The prize for the best art directing went to another Russian director Sergey Loznitsa with Ukrainian film My Happiness, which earlier participated in the Cannes festival but picked up no award.

The film became the first Ukrainian in history to have been awarded at Kinotavr festival.

Over 14 pieces of art work by Russian outstanding directors participated in the main competition with eight of which debuted.

Kinotavr that started in 1991 has proved to be Russia's most popular movie festival, not only for its films, but also for its seminars and panel discussions.
