LOS ANGELES, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The latest installment of the highly popular Toy Story franchise, "Toy Story 3" has stood firmly atop the box office throne, beating up two premieres which have launched a two-flank assault against the animated flick, the North America box office authorities said on Sunday.

The sequel is expected to gross another 59 million U.S. dollars in estimated movie ticket receipts in the United States and Canada, and well on track to sell 226.6 million dollars in entrance fees in just ten days.

Two premieres did solid business this weekend as well.

Sony/Columbia's "Grown Ups" opened with 41 million dollars in estimated sales, while Fox's "Knight & Day" debuted with 20.5 dollars in projected gross.

A comedy written and stared by Adam Sandler, "Grown Ups" tells a story about five best friends who, when reunited more than 30 years later decide to spend the Independence Day weekend together with their families at the lake house where they celebrated their basketball championship. It has received mostly negatives.

"Knight & Day," an action comedy starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz received generally mixed reviews from film critics. It got a "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes based upon aggregated reviews. The film's performance in the box office is also very poor, registering a nine-percent fall in ticket sales in its second day before falling to No.3 position on Sunday.

Sony/Columbia's action film "The Karate Kid," starring Jackie Chan and Will Smith's 11-year-old son, is still holding its ground, although it has slipped from last week's second place into this week's fourth, taking in 15.4 million dollars in sales and is on trail to garner 135.6 million dollars over three weeks.

Last week's No.3 ,20th Century Fox's release "The A-Team," also dropped two notches to the fifth this weekend, with an estimated 6 million dollars, and 62.8 million dollars for three weeks.
