KARLEVY VARY, Czech Republic, July 10 (Xinhua) -- "The Mosquito Net," a Spanish film, won on Saturday the top Crystal Globe award for best feature film at the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (IFF).

The film directed by Augusti Vila tells a story about a well-off urban family suffering from guilt complex. The mother feels guilty about her children, and the son feels responsible for all living things, particularly those abandoned cats and dogs.

Geraldine Chaplin, who plays a silent role in "The Mosquito Net," described the film's screenplay as one of the three best scripts she had ever read.

Russian director, producer and actor Nikita Mikhalkov, 64, received the award for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the closing ceremony on Saturday night.

"Cinema is a family for all of us and I am happy that I am a member of it," said Mikhalkov, who got standing ovations when he arrived.

French actress Anais Demoustier won the Best Actress Award for her role as a teenage girl in the French psychological thriller "Sweet Evil" directed by Olivier Coussemacq.

The Best Actor Award went to two Polish actors Mateusz Kosciukiewicz and Filip Garbacz for their roles in the Polish film "Mother Teresa of Cats" directed by Pawel Sala.
