LOS ANGELES, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Troubled U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan has surrendered at a Beverly Hills courthouse and began serving a 90-day jail sentence at a Los Angeles suburban jail on Tuesday morning.

Lohan, who donned an open-back top, black jacket and jeans, arrived around 8:30 a.m. local time in a black Sport Utility Vehicle amid a media frenzy that saw droves of photojournalists and paparazzi in cars, on motorcycles and foot, snapping pictures along her way from home to the Beverly Hill Superior Court.

Judge Marsha Revel ordered that Lohan not be permitted to serve any part of her sentence on home detention or with electronic monitoring. In a hearing held on July 6, Revel ruled that Lohan had violated her probation by missing multiple classes at a court- ordered alcohol-education program and ordered the 24-year-old actress to serve a 90-day jail term.

Actress Lindsay Lohan appears in court at the Beverly Hills Municipal Courthouse as she surrenders for a 90-day jail sentence for violating the terms of her probation on drunk driving charges by missing alcohol education classes in Beverly Hills, California July 20, 2010.

She posted a message on her Twitter page around 8 p.m. Monday, saying, "the only 'bookings' that I'm familiar with are Disney Films, never thought that I'd be 'booking' into Jail ... ."

Lohan will serve her time at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, where Paris Hilton served less than four full days of the 23 days she promised to serve for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case in 2007.

A tearful Lohan addressed the court before sentencing, saying " as far as I knew I was in compliance with my programs."

"I wasn't trying to get special treatment," she said.

Lohan is not expected to serve anywhere near her 90-day jail time, analysts predicted. Nonviolent female inmates generally serve about 25 percent of their sentence, Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said after the July 6 hearing. Lohan could also receive good-time credit and have her sentence further reduced under the sheriff's early release program aimed at easing jail overcrowding.

In August 2007, Lohan pleaded no contest to two counts each of drunken driving and being under the influence of cocaine, and one count of reckless driving. She was sentenced to one day in jail -- but spent a total of 84 minutes at the Century Regional Detention Facility -- and was placed on three years probation.

Lohan's probation was later extended for a year after she missed some alcohol-education classes while making a movie in Texas.

Earlier Monday, former member of O.J. Simpson's "dream team" Robert Shapiro and Lohan abruptly met with Judge Marsha Revel late Monday afternoon. Then her most recent lawyer resigned after less than a week. He refused to say why he ended representing the "Mean Girls" star.
