BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Lady Gaga will soon overtake Britney Spears to become the world's most-followed Twitter user, according to Reuters reports.

Britney Spears is the world's top tweeter, with more than 5.6 million followers, but Gaga is right on her heels.

As of earlier Friday, Lady Gaga had 5,635,460 followers, while Spears had 5,646,028, according to statistics shown by Famecount.com, a social media statistics service website.

With current growth rates, the ranking could switch very soon, since Lady Gaga has netted around 600,000 new followers this month, while Spears pulled in about 200,000.

Famecount.com also confirmed that Lady Gaga has become the most popular entity online, since she has had 16 million Facebook fans and 330,000 YouTube subscribers.
