娱乐英语新闻:Ben Affleck's “The Town” tops N American box office

BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Ben Affleck's latest work “The Town” took No. 1 this weekend at the North American box office with 23.8 million U.S. dollars, media reported Monday.

The story, about a corner of Boston that produces more bank robbers per capita than any neighborhood, has received very positive reviews, scoring recommendations from 93 percent of the nation's reviewers, according to RottenTomatoes.com.

“Easy A”, the comedy starring Emma Stone and Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgleya, was second, with about 18.2 million in sales.

In third place with 12.6 million was Universal Pictures’ “Devil” featuring a crew of strangers trapped in an elevator as creepy stuff goes down in the confined space.

The animated "Alpha and Omega", which also opened this weekend, came in fifth place with 9.2 million after "Resident Evil: Afterlife" (10.1 million).
