LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Veteran Hollywood actress Gloria Stuart, who was better known for playing an elder version of Kate Winslet's character Rose in James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster "Titanic," died on Sunday at her home in West Los Angeles. She was 100.

Funeral services were pending Monday as the Academy Award- nominated actress has passed away after a battle against the lung cancer she was diagnosed to suffer from five years ago, her daughter Sylvia Thompson told the Washington Post.

The blonde actress won acclaim for her role as the survivor of the notorious sea wreck in the box-office hit, and was nominated for a supporting-actress award for her portrayal of an elder version of the heroine, becoming the oldest Oscars nominee. She only lost to Kim Basinger, who walked away with the honor for her role in "L.A. Confidential."

Disappointed with her career, the glamorous blonde basically gave up on acting in the following three decades before reappearing in a string of television movies.
