ROME, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Keira Knightly, Eva Mendes and Julianne Moore are among the stars that will walk the red carpet at the fifth edition of the Rome Film Festival, organizers announced Thursday.

Also attending this year's star-studded event is actor Aaron Eckhart, who will be promoting "Rabbit Hole," a drama about a family struck by tragedy, where he co-stars with Nicole Kidman, also at her debut as producer.

The movie is among the 16 competing for the Marc'Aurelio Jury award for Best Movie, together with Knightly's and Mendes' "Last Night," which focuses on a couple who will experience jealousy and betrayal and features Avatar star Sam Worthington.

Also attending the festival is legendary "The Blues Brothers" director John Landis, who will be presenting his new movie, "Burke and Hare," a black comedy about two 19th century grave robbers.

Among the films screening out of competition is Martin Scorsese 's "Boardwalk Empire," a TV series pilot starring Steve Buscemi at the eve of Prohibition in the United States.

The first 20 minutes of the highly anticipated film "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night," -- inspired by the horror comics character of a supernatural detective chasing out monsters -- will be having a world premiere on Halloween night, organizers said.

The Rome Film Festival, launched in 2006, has so far attracted huge crowds of people with its "open" formula, offering fans the opportunity to attend movie projections, exhibitions and meetings with actors and directors.

"The Festival has reached an important goal, by being an event that simultaneously showcases great cinema and involves the public, " Italy's Culture Minister Sandro Bondi said in a note ahead of the festival's opening on Oct. 28.

Organizers said a total of over 2 million people have attended the previous four editions.

The festival, running through Nov. 5, is held at Rome's Auditorium, a modern exhibition and concert center designed by famous architect Renzo Piano.
