娱乐英语新闻:"The Founding of a Republic" wins biennial Chinese audience film award

NANJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Best-selling film "The Founding of a Republic" co-directed by Han Sanping and Huang Jianxin won the Best Feature Film award of the 30th Full Blossom biennial awards given by local audience in east China's Jiangsu province Saturday evening.

The awards were voted by a 101-member jury representing 5.89 million residents of Jiangyin, a city on the banks of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu, who decided the nomination list at the closing ceremony of the 19th China Golden Rooster and Full Blossom Festival.

"The Founding of a Republic", a movie marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China released in 2009, beat the strongest opponents "Bodyguards and Assassins" and "The Message" to win the the Best Feature Film award.

Mainland actors Tang Guoqiang and Zhang Guoli, and Hong Kong stars Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Andy Lau starred in the film. Directors Chen Kaige and John Woo were also among the cast.

"The Founding of a Republic" earned 420 million yuan (62.7 million U.S. dollars) in box revenue and had been a best-selling film before Feng Xiaogang's "Aftershock", a film telling the story of an earthquake that devastated a Chinese city in 1976, overtook it this year.

Feng Xiaogang won the Best Director award with his 2008 romantic comedy "If You Are the One".

Heart-throb actor Chen Kun, picked up Best Leading Actor award for his role in the action-thriller film "Painted Skin", defeating strong opponents including Zhang Guoli playing Chiang Kai-shek in "The Founding of a Republic".

Zhao Wei won the Best Leading Actress award.

Taiwan actor Alec Su won the Best Supporting Actor award with the World War Two spy film "The Message," co-directed by Chen Kou-fu and Gao Qunshu, while Xu Qing and Wang Jia won the Best Supporting Actresses award with "The Founding of a Republic" and "Jing Tian Dong Di," a film that tells the rescue story in the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in 2008.

The Best New Artist award was given to Xu Jian, with her outstanding performance in "Jing Tian Dong Di".

Eighty-year-old Yu Yang, a veteran actor and director, and 82-year-old veteran actress Tian Hua won the Lifetime Achievement awards.
