BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Katy Perry and Russell Brand have reportedly taken off on a chartered jet to the Maldives to start their honeymoon, media reported Tuesday.

Brand, 35, and Perry, 25, tied the knot in front of family and close friends at an exclusive hotel resort in northwestern India Saturday.

A Christian minister who's a longtime Perry family friend performed a "private and spiritual ceremony," the newlyweds said in a statement.

As a token of his love, Brand gave his wife a ruby that is said to have 'protective powers', while Perry picked a baby elephant for her husband as wedding gift.
