Li, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, also urged governments at all levels to attach great importance to the work of medical and health care professionals.
"A performance-based incentive mechanism must be established to encourage medical personnel to improve their professional skills," said Li.
He said the government should inject more investment while drawing up more supportive policies to push the reform.

Established in Shanghai in February 1915, the Chinese Medical Association has more than 500,000 members nationwide.
