国内英语新闻:Senior CPC official urges promotion of volunteering

WUXI, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan Friday urged more efforts to expand the ranks of volunteers and optimize the system for volunteering.

Liu, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the call in a letter of congratulations to a national seminar on volunteer work held in Wuxi city, east China's Jiangsu Province, Friday.

A well-developed volunteer system could bring about a friendly social atmosphere and harmonious social relationships, the letter said.

A statement released after the seminar, held jointly by the Publicity Department and the Civilization Office of the CPC Central Committee, said it was attended by officials from central ministries and civilization work offices of provinces and municipalities.

It did not provide the names or the number of the participants.
