China staged the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2006, which was attended by leaders and representatives from 48 African countries.

Hu Jintao announced a package of major assistance, investment, trade and other key cooperation projects with Africa in an effort to forge a new type of strategic partnership.

China provided assistance to developing nations to the best of its ability, including those caught in the Indian Ocean tsunami, Haiti quake, Myanmar cyclone, Pakistan flooding, and other catastrophes.
