体坛英语新闻:Austrians set two diving records
According to Monday report of Austrian Press Agency (APA), the two records were made last Friday in the Lake Weissen of Austria's southern state Carinthia.
Redl dived 93 meters under some 40-centimeter thick ice without oxygen with the water temperature of only 2 degree Celsius, while Foukal dived 50 meters under the same circumstances without equipments like diving cylinders.
Redl set a record of 90 meters in under-ice diving without oxygen in 2003, and broke his own record this time, while Foukal exceeded an Italian's record of under-ice diving without equipment set last February by seven meters.
The two new records have been written into the "Guinness World Records".
The report also said that at the time of breaking the records, there was 30-centermeter thick snow on the ice, so it was as dark as at night under the ice.
Riddle admitted in a statement released on Monday that except for not able to come out of water any time, the feeling of diving at night is also a psychological challenge.
