体坛英语新闻:Tardese breaks world record on Lisbon Half Marathon
LISBON, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The Eritrean Zersenay Tadese won the Lisbon Half Marathon 2010 breaking the world record.
He ran the 21,090 meters in 58 minutes and 23 seconds, reducingthe world's best mark by 10 seconds. The former world record holder is Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru.
Tadese crossed the line with 1:23 in front of the Kenyan Sammy Kitwara, in second place, and 1:40 faster than the third, EmmanuelMutai.
On the women's race, Kenyan Peninah Arusei won with 1 hour 8:38,followed by Ethiopian Askale Tafa, with more 2:8,and the third place went to Portuguese Fernanda Ribeiro, 3:29 after Arusei.
More than 35,000 people participated in the Portuguese race, the oldest half marathon in the world. It was the 22nd half marathon at the Portuguese capital city.
