国际英语新闻:Cyprus to help Greece reconstruct fire-destroyed villages
NICOSIA -- The Cypriot government has decided to help Greece reconstruct one or two destroyed villages in Peloponnese, which is the hardest-hit area in the forest fires.
Cyprus will rebuild the village of Artemida in Peloponnese following consultations with the Greek government, announced government spokesman Vasilis Palmas after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
He called on Cypriot people to deposit their donation into fund- raising accounts the government has opened, adding that Cyprus may assume in the future the reconstruction of another fire-destroyed village if enough money is collected.
Cyprus has the largest foreign firefighting mission of firemen and volunteers to Greece, to combat the huge blazes that have reduced vast expanses of Greece to ashes over the past few days, reported the Cyprus news Agency.
A total of 137 Greek Cypriot firemen, assisted by 14 fire engines, have been sent to fire fronts in Greece.
