国际英语新闻:Iran's parliament to supervise future nuclear talks
The parliament would exercise supervision over the country's upcoming nuclear talks and it would only authorize those talks to be carried out "within the legislative body's framework," Larijani was quoted as saying.
He added that "future nuclear negotiations are possible only if they are conducted within the framework of the Majlis resolutions."
Larijani, however, did not elaborate on the spirit and content of "framework of legislative body" and "Majlis resolutions" which the negotiations are to be based on.
Earlier on Thursday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in the central city of Isfahan that the country would welcome "honest" and "fair" talks based on mutual respect.
The United States and other Western countries claim that Iran intends to secretly develop nuclear weapons. The UN Security Council also requires Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activity.
But Iran insists that its nuclear plan is only for peaceful purposes, vowing to continue its uranium enrichment activity despite pressure and sanctions from the West.
Iran's nuclear chief Gholam Reza Aghazadeh also said Thursday that Iran is running around 7,000 centrifuges at its Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
