国际英语新闻:Japan, U.S. seek powerful UN resolution on DPRK
They discussed how to work together along with other parties to the six-party talks to persuade Pyongyang "to return to the path of complete and verifiable denuclearization," Steinberg said after meeting with Aso. He did not elaborate on what had been discussed.
Aso later told reporters the six-party framework remained the most effective mechanism to solve the nuclear issue of Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Aso and Steinberg agreed a DPRK in possession of nuclear weapons is a threat to the regional and global security, especially the security of Japan.
Steinberg plans to visit South Korea, China and Russia after his visit to Japan. Part of the purpose of his trip was to discuss ways to respond to the Pyongyang's test.
South Korean media on Monday reported Pyongyang has shifted its most advanced long-range missile to a new west coast launch site and could fire the missile as early as mid-June.
Japan is making efforts in seeking for the U.N. Security Council to adopt a powerful resolution which includes additional sanctions on the DPRK.
