国际英语新闻:Intel to buy U.S. software vendor Wind River
Intel said it has agreed to acquire all outstanding Wind River common stock for 11.5 dollars per share in cash and the transaction is expected to close this summer.
Wind River will become part of Intel's strategy to grow its processor and software presence outside the traditional personal computer and server market segments into embedded systems and mobile handheld devices, the world's largest computer chip maker said.
"This acquisition will bring us complementary, market-leading software assets and an incredibly talented group of people to help us continue to grow our embedded systems and mobile device capabilities," Renee James, Intel's vice president, noted in a statement.
Founded in 1981, Wind River is a leading software vendor in embedded devices. The company is now headquartered in Alameda, California, and has over 1,600 employees worldwide.
