国际英语新闻:Iran says talks with world powers to base on proposed package: FM

TEHRAN, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that the forthcoming talks with G5+1 would be based on Iran's proposed package, the official IRNA news agency reported on Thursday.

"On the part of Iran, the discussion would be pursued over reaching a framework based on our proposed package and we hope reaching that framework would be possible," Mottaki was quoted as saying.

He was talking to the reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony in Tehran on Wednesday.

Asked whether Iran and the United States might get engaged in direct talks on the sidelines of the negotiations, he said, "There will be no direct talks there and it would be 6+1 (talks) this time."

"The Americans would be present at the negotiation table and there would be talks on various topics," he added.

On the venue of negotiations between Iran and G5+1 -- the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain plus Germany -- Mottaki said that it has not finalized yet, according to the report.

The talks between Iran and the six major powers on Iran's disputed nuclear program is expected to be held on October 1 in Turkey, according to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

The six powers last week accepted an offer from Tehran to hold wide-ranging talks. The Obama administration expects the talks would focus on Iran's nuclear issue, but Tehran insists that they would talk only about "international cooperation and resolving global economic and security problems."

The United States and other Western countries claim that Iran intends to secretly develop nuclear weapons.

Iran, however, insists that its nuclear plan is only for peaceful purposes, vowing to continue its uranium enrichment activity despite pressure and sanctions from Western countries.
