国际英语新闻:Obama vows to fight for jobs
WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama pledged Friday to keep fighting for job creation for American people who are suffering double-digit unemployment.
"I'll never stop fighting for you," Obama said in a speech after his visit to a Wind Turbine Manufacturing and Fab Lab facilities in Elyria, Ohio, one of the former industrial base states.
"I'll never stop fighting for an economy where hard work is rewarded, where responsibility is honored, where accountability is upheld, where we're creating the jobs of tomorrow," he said.
It was the second stop on Obama's so-called White House to Main Street tour, announced in December. One aim is to help the president demonstrate that he understands how important it is to fix.
Unemployment rate in Ohio, at 10.6 percent, is above the national average 10 percent.
He told audience that investments in clean-energy technologies will help boost the nation's economy.
The Obama administration believes that new clean energy industries represent the future of manufacturing sector. The government has channeled billions of dollars their way from a 787 billion dollars stimulus package Obama signed in February 2009.
The House of Representatives has already approved 155 billion dollars more for a jobs package and the Senate is expected to take up its version of a jobs bill in coming weeks.
The United States suffered the worst recession in 70 years after its housing market collapsed. As unemployment rate keeps at a 26-year-high level, the Obama administration and the Democratic Party is facing political setback. How to create job has become the top priority of the government.
The Labor Department reported Friday that unemployment rates rose in 43 states in December 2009, more than the previous month.
It is widely expected that job creation will be one of the key theme of the President's first State of the Union address next Wednesday.
