国际英语新闻:Clinton to travel to London for int'l conferences on Yemen, Afghanistan
WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will travel to London on Tuesday for international conferences on Yemen and Afghanistan, U.S. State Department said on Monday.
Clinton will attend a ministerial meeting on Yemen on Wednesday, which is aimed at consolidating international support for Yemen, coordinating assistance efforts, and reaching agreement on assisting Yemen in its political and economic reform efforts.
On Thursday, Clinton will attend the International Conference on Afghanistan. Its objective is to demonstrate the international community's support for Afghanistan's future and the agenda outlined by the Karzai-led government.
"The meetings will focus on the implementation of our strategy in support of Afghanistan's security, governance and development, and improved international civilian coordination," said the department.
Secretary Clinton will also visit France on Friday.
In Paris, she will deliver a speech on European security, and meet with President Nicolas Sarkozy and Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner to discuss "the international Haiti relief effort, developments in Iran, Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and an array of other issues of mutual concern."
