国际英语新闻:Russia to form two car alliances
MOSCOW, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Two major car-making alliances will be created under a proposal to revitalise Russia's auto industry, according to reports.
Briefing Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Khristenko said one of the alliances would involve Renault-Nissan and AvtoVAZ, the biggest Russian car producer, while the other would bring together foreign automakers already in Russia and would be determined within two weeks.
A draft of the strategy for the development of Russia's auto industry until 2020 will be presented to the government on Feb. 25, the minister was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
The strategy envisioned an investment of 1.1 trillion rubles (around 36.3 billion U.S. dollars) in the coming decade on the domestic auto industry, and some restrictions on the export of foreign auto parts.
Khristenko also expected Russia's auto industry to recover in the second half of this year, with annual car production reaching 3.2 million to 3.4 million units in 2015, and 3.6 million units in 2020.
